Position : Special Education Teacher (In-Home)

Commitment : Part-Time, 10 to 12 Hours per Week

Compensation Rate : $80 per Hour

Focused Staffing Group is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide personalized support to two boys with visual impairments in their home environment. Role Overview :

As a Special Education Teacher, you will deliver individualized instruction, behavior support, and life skills training tailored to meet the unique needs of each student, both aged 19. This role requires a strong understanding of autism, visual impairments, and cognitive delays, as well as the ability to develop and implement customized educational plans that promote growth, independence, and overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Individualized Instruction : Create and deliver specialized lesson plans using a multi-sensory approach that engages students through auditory and tactile learning methods.
  • Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) : Design learning experiences that address the ECC, collaborating with other providers to ensure comprehensive support and documentation of progress.
  • Assistive Technology : Utilize assistive technologies, such as tactile materials, braille, and audio-based tools, to enhance learning and communication. Collaborate with a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) as needed.
  • Communication Development : Support alternative communication methods (e.g., braille) and work alongside a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to implement communication goals.
  • Life Skills Training : Assist students in developing daily living skills (e.g., dressing, hygiene, feeding) to promote independence and self-sufficiency, with a focus on vocational skills and job readiness.
  • Collaboration with Family and Specialists : Partner with parents / guardians to create, monitor, and adjust Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Coordinate with professionals such as occupational therapists, behavior technicians, and mobility specialists for comprehensive support.
  • Progress Monitoring and Reporting : Track and report on academic, behavioral, and social progress regularly, providing detailed updates to families and adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
  • Behavioral Support : Implement evidence-based strategies to address challenging behaviors and reinforce positive behavior with support from a behavior technician and BCBA.
  • Emotional and Social Support : Offer nurturing and emotional support, helping students develop self-regulation skills and confidence in a safe, loving environment.

Qualifications :

  • Massachusetts Special Education Teaching Certificate (required)
  • Experience working with children with autism, cognitive delays, and visual impairments (required)
  • Willingness to drive / commute to students' homes for up to 10-12 hours per week (required)
