We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Substation Design Manager for a direct placement opportunity with a leading engineering consulting firm serving the power utility and industrial sectors. This firm delivers comprehensive solutions in substation, transmission, distribution, distributed energy resources (DER), and EPC services. You'll be part of a people-focused, innovative team working on impactful infrastructure projects across California.
Manage and oversee consultants' work to ensure compliance with technical standards and approved project requirements
Prepare technical scopes, cost estimates, and perform engineering calculations and studies
Generate detailed written and oral reports on technical findings and engineering recommendations
Participate in estimating and economic analysis for projects
Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal design staff and external design consultants
Review design packages and manufacturer drawings to ensure accuracy and consistency
Perform conceptual and detailed physical / electrical substation design, including layout, one-lines, grounding, AC / DC systems, and more
Develop substation construction drawing packages and bills of materials
Create relay one-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and other detailed substation drawings
Conduct conduit fill and rigid bus calculations, cable design, and grounding layout
Ensure all engineering practices meet applicable safety regulations and proactively contribute to a safe work environment
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program
Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in substation design and engineering for electric utilities
Familiarity with IEEE Standards as they relate to substations
Hands-on experience with Greenfield and Brownfield projects
Experience with power analysis tools such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower is a plus
Demonstrated expertise in substation design elements including layout, cable trays, grounding, conduit systems, and control schematics
Experience working with large utility clients preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Must reside in Northern California and be available to travel to local project sites as required

Salary Range : $135,000–$165,000 annually, depending on experience
