Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in overseeing the clinical operations of the skilled nursing facility. This role ensures high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and efficient day-to-day nursing operations. The ADON serves as a clinical leader, mentor, and resource for nursing staff while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing services

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (CMS, state survey requirements)

• Support staffing operations, including scheduling, onboarding, orientation, and performance management

• Provide clinical oversight and guidance to nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs)

• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives

• Assist with infection prevention and control programs

• Monitor documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance

• Address resident and family concerns related to nursing care

• Support survey preparation, survey management, and plan of correction implementation

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive resident care

• Serve as acting Director of Nursing in the DON’s absence as needed

Qualifications

• Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in TN

• Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting

• Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and best practices

• Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as an ADON, Nurse Manager, or Unit Manager
