Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in overseeing the clinical operations of the skilled nursing facility. This role ensures high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and efficient day-to-day nursing operations. The ADON serves as a clinical leader, mentor, and resource for nursing staff while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence.
Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing services
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (CMS, state survey requirements)
Support staffing operations, including scheduling, onboarding, orientation, and performance management
Provide clinical oversight and guidance to nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs)
Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives
Assist with infection prevention and control programs
Monitor documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance
Address resident and family concerns related to nursing care
Support survey preparation, survey management, and plan of correction implementation
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive resident care
Serve as acting Director of Nursing in the DON’s absence as needed
Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in TN
Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting
Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and best practices
Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Prior experience as an ADON, Nurse Manager, or Unit Manager
