Crossing Guard

Job Title

General Purpose : Performs routine traffic control duties at crosswalks and follows established traffic control procedures to assure the safety of students and pedestrians crossing roadways.

Supervision Received : Works under the general supervision of Police Department Personnel.

Supervision Exercised : None.

Essential Functions :

• Directs traffic, both pedestrian and vehicular, through designated school crossing zone; escorts children across the street; steps onto cross designated crossing zone, remains in the center of zone throughout pedestrian traffic flow; returns to the side of the street, directing the continuation of through vehicular traffic.
• Observes actions of vehicular traffic through crossing zone, notes violators and reports to Police Officer; observes behaviors and activities of persons in the proximity of school grounds for inappropriate / illegal activities, reports to the appropriate person(s); provides assistance and escorts children across streets; provides information and assistance to children upon request or as needed.
• Ensures proper maintenance of equipment; replaces old or worn equipment as necessary. Informs police department of any problems; requests needed supplies; ensures payroll time sheets are submitted promptly and accurately.
