Foreman Position
The Foreman is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. Essential functions include :
- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work.
- Coach crew members.
- Possess working knowledge of leadership and management skills.
- Lead and train lower-skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures.
- Lead and teach hot stick work on energized lines.
- Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings.
- Possess working knowledge of all aspects of line work.
- String overhead wire.
- Set poles and anchors.
- Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
- Troubleshoot problems and supervise troubleshooting in primary and secondary systems.
- Replace cutout fuses and clear faulted circuits and systems.
- Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Perform rigorous physical labor.
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
- Be familiar with induced voltage.
- Properly sag wire.
- Properly phase a circuit through a substation.
- Identify and locate puller and tensioner setups.
- Understand grounding procedures.
- Work at heights and / or confined spaces.
- Properly install and remove PPE and cover up.
- Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.
- Understand how to safely operate equipment.
- Understand how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
- Plan safe work based on a job print or work order.
- Understand how to obtain a one shot on a recloser.
- Safely perform a reconductoring job.
- Willingness to glove / work live high voltage distribution power lines.
- Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers.
- Understand how to use a load bust tool.
- Properly ask for and take line clearances.
- Identify and locate puller and tensioner setups.
- Possess a working knowledge of line protection devices.
- Understand flag and tag procedures.
- Work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
- Does all other related work as required to complete the job.
Other requirements include :
5-year minimum of recent field experience.Read and communicate effectively in English.Coordinate and inspect the work of crew members.Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.Properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.Comply with company reporting procedures and complete required company paperwork.Possess a CDL and demonstrate safe driving.Willing to work over-time when requested.Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.Physical demands include :
Regularly required to talk or hear.Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms.Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.Loud noise level in the work environment and job sites.Performed in outside weather conditions.Competencies include :
