DOT Maintenance Manager
The DOT Maintenance Manager oversees fleet maintenance and operations, ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Responsibilities include managing staff, scheduling preventative and emergency repairs, controlling budgets, maintaining equipment and inventory, and ensuring all activities meet safety and performance standards. This role requires a strong understanding of maintenance, as well as the federal and state laws that govern transportation and vehicle upkeep. The position requires a detail-oriented professional who can interpret complex regulations, implement effective compliance systems, and balance regulatory demands with business objectives. Must travel to multiple yards across the region.
Core responsibilities
- Staff and operational management : Supervise and evaluate maintenance staff, schedule work, and ensure personnel have the necessary training, tools, and equipment.
- Fleet maintenance and repair : Oversee all scheduled, preventative, and emergency maintenance and repairs for the fleet to ensure safety, reliability, and performance.
- Compliance and safety : Ensure all maintenance activities comply with DOT, OSHA, and other state and federal regulations. This includes managing driver qualification files and drug and alcohol testing programs.
- Budget and inventory management : Manage maintenance budgets, control costs, and oversee parts inventory.
- Record keeping and reporting : Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records and prepare reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), costs, and fleet effectiveness.
- Vendor and partner relations : Manage relationships with external vendors and coordinate with other departments or agencies as needed.
Key skills and qualifications
Communication : Strong communication skills to interact with staff, management, and other agencies.Technical expertise : Deep knowledge of maintenance methods, equipment, and materials for various fleet vehicles.Regulatory knowledge : Expertise in DOT and other applicable safety and transportation laws and regulations.Leadership and management : Experience in supervising and motivating a team.Financial acumen : Ability to manage budgets and analyze cost data.Analytical skills : Ability to analyze performance metrics, such as cost per mile, and use data to make improvements.Bilingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus.Must pass pre-employment physical, background check, and drug screen.SA Recycling offers :
