Purpose
The Research Engineering / Scientist Associate III supports the transition of foundational research developed in the Nuclear & Applied Research Group as well as from other research groups at UT Austin.
Responsibilities
Carries out research in the area of applied robotics for use in extreme environments, particularly in the nuclear, oil and gas industries, and / or military applications though other application areas may be considered
Supports deliverables related to autonomous mobile systems, mobile manipulation, and human-machine interfaces
Helps supervise lab members
Supports efforts to maintain or obtain research funding from federal agencies and industry
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree and two (2) years of experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of experience in one of the domains above or applied robotics. Experience in the form of research or projects completed at the university. Knowledge of the Robot Operating System (ROS), Python, and C++ preferably with a history of creating or contributing to the ROS software base. Current funding sources require that eligible candidates are U.S. Citizens.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience conducting research, including experience contributing to or authoring scholarly publications in archival journals, filing of patent applications, and / or having received research funding from governmental and private funding agencies. Experience writing research grants in addition to experience in writing proposals and obtaining research funding. Experience in CAD and 3D printing. Experience with basic wiring, DC circuits, and microcontrollers. Working knowledge of the application areas : nuclear, oil and gas industries, or the defense industry.
Salary Range
75,000 - $120,000 + depending on qualifications
