Summary

This position is responsible for maintaining a positive working relationship with AWCT customers, organizing and scheduling staff, and directing the day-to-day operations of all rail, functions. This position ensures loading of vehicles onto rail cars, and the receipt / movement / storage of vehicles through efficient productivity of the work crews. This position coordinates activities of associates under the direction of the Terminal Manager to ensure a well-coordinated, efficient, productive rail operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily scheduling of personnel to complete receipt / movement / storage, rail loading and pre-delivery inspections in a productive cost-efficient manner.
  • Direct the day-to-day activities of the operation

Oversee vehicle receipt / movement / storage

  • Oversee pre-delivery inspections
  • Oversee rail loading operations
  • Assign personnel to job locations.
  • Ensure personnel have the support, tools, and supplies needed for production. This includes purchasing and inventory of consumable materials.
  • Conduct audits and make suggestions for corrective action as needed.
  • Document performance issues and coordinate all correction action with the Terminal Manager and Regional HR Manager.
  • Observe and assist where needed.
  • Make appropriate changes in activities if needed.
  • Ensure all AAR, Customer and AWCT policies and procedures are followed.
  • Communicate daily with leads, staff, and office personnel to determine staffing, supply and operational needs, and ensure these needs are met and there are no service failures to the customer.
  • Ensure new personnel receive the appropriate training.
  • Report accidents and injuries on appropriate forms and communicate the procedure to all appropriate customers / vendors and AWCT personnel.
  • Conduct accident investigations.
  • Responsible for safety programs to provide a safe, clean workplace for all personnel and within the regulations of local, state, federal, and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct time studies and man-minute reports and evaluates associates according to standards.
  • Assist in the facility budget process.
  • Interface with the customer to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct labor / materials cost analysis and coordinate rates with the Terminal Manager.
  • React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
  • Assist in equipment, facility, and company vehicle maintenance
  • May assist with property maintenance issues.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the operations leadership team.
  • May stand in as a backup to the Terminal Manager.
  • May be responsible for managing subordinate supervisors and their teams.
  • Minimum Requirements

  • ​ Ability to communicate with and deal effectively with customers, associates, and the public
  • Ability to function effectively under pressure
  • Knowledge and general ability to apply an understanding of invoicing / billing process, including an ability to perform routine business mathematics and understand accounts payable / receivable
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to produce accurate reports and information
  • Ability to read and understand SDS
  • Ability to pass driver's safety test at 80% or better
  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated skills with MS Office, including intermediate Excel and Access skills; internal and customer computer applications knowledge a plus, such as AS400 / VIPS
  • Thorough knowledge of operations and office practices, procedures, and equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of AAR auditing requirements, standards and processes with the ability to coach and train associates on the same
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled in the proper use of English, including proper spelling and punctuation
  • Ability to perform a variety of functions requiring considerable exercise of independent judgment
  • Possess good planning, analysis, and organizing skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with minimum 3 years' supervisor experience in a logistics environment
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, often in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to assist crews in completing rail loading / unloading functions as needed to meet customer needs, complete audits, etc.
  • Ability to work at heights and maintain 3 points of contact for safety while working on rail.
  • Drive vehicles with either an automatic or manual transmission
  • Valid driver's license; good driving record with the ability to maintain the same
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • ​Two years rail prep, loading or unloading and / or rail supervisory experience.
  • Internal and customer computer applications a plus; such as AS400 / VIPS
  • Some college preferred
