Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring Meditech proficiency and ACLS / BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) within an acute care hospital setting
  • Duties include rotating between pre-op and PACU at two campuses and providing recovery care
  • Unit covers general, GYN, orthopedic, hand specialist, podiatry, eyes, ENT, and endoscopy cases
  • Unit consists of 6 ORs, 4 endo suites, pre-op with 8 beds, PACU with 4 beds, and recovery with 10 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are Pre-op 1 : 2, PACU 1 : 1 or 1 : 3, and recovery 1 : 2 or 1 : 3
  • Schedules are 8-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday, with varied start times between
  • No weekend, call, or holiday shifts required
  • Floating is required between both hospital and surgery center units
  • Uses Meditech EMR; experience with Meditech required; paper charting may be used in some areas
  • Nurses will rotate between pre-op, PACU, and recovery phases depending on need
  • Medical assistants provide support with patient admissions and discharges
  • Manager oversees the area; each subunit has a charge nurse
  • General orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor and ongoing support from a designated buddy
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • No prior direct employment with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year
  • Requirements

  • Active RN license for Oregon or Compact states, in hand at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PACU or perioperative nursing experience
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications required, PALS preferred
  • Proficiency in reading and responding to cardiac rhythm strips
  • Experience with both phase 1 and phase 2 PACU required
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Meditech EMR required
  • Copy of driver’s license required
  • Two professional references : one recent supervisor (within 12 months) and one supervisor or peer (within 3 years)
