EDUCATION REQUIRED :
1. \tMust be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology Program
2. \tCurrently licensed to practice in the State of Texas
3. \tTwo (2) years experience in the ER preferred.
4. \tCPR Certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
1. \tMust be able to work in a confined area and under physical and mental stress at various times.
2. \tThe CT / Radiographer must be cable of bending, lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods of time.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS :
1. \tCertifications in area of specialty encouraged (AART, etc.)
2. \tKnowledge of sterile technique.
3. \tBilingual in Spanish preferred.
POSITION GOAL :
1. \tThe CT / RADIOGRAPHER performs the functions of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of the patient scheduled for a procedure at ER.
2. \tThe CT / RADIOGRAPHER is responsible for meeting standards of practice, all radiology / CT supplies, and radiology / CT equipment in the ER, and promoting collaboration with physicians and personnel of the department.
3. \tThe CT / RADIOGRAPHER performs in any Radiology area in the ER.
STANDARD I : Radiography Process
1.\tAssists with the assessments, prepares patient for procedure, and reviews chart for completeness.
2.\tEnsures proper identification of the patient by checking the identification band and by confirming with patients verbal self-identification.
3.\tReviews patients charts and ensures that the required information has been obtained in order to perform radiography ordered by the physician.
4.\tPerforms CT procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs those duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures applying ionizing radiation for the purpose of detecting pathology.
5.\tOperates equipment safely and maintains A.L.A.R.A. standards while performing call types of procedures.
6.\tAssists with the assessments. Prepares patient for procedure and reviews chart for completeness.
STANDARD II : Behavioral and physiological status
1.\tAssist to reduce anxiety in the care of the patient.
2.\tThe CT / RADIOGRAPHER assesses the patients level of consciousness and determines his / her psychological state.
3.\tThe CT / RADIOGRAPHER provides privacy and a quiet environment and offers emotional support to the patient.
STANDARD III : Professional responsibility and Policy and Procedures
1.\tFollows all policies, protocols and procedures set up for the delivery of good and safe patient care.
2.\tProper documentation of care, including supplies used and any other data required by ER policy.
3.\tAssists with the performing of labs, starting IVs, obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, and assisting with the application of splints as deemed necessary by the physician or Nurse Manager on duty.
4.\tEstablishes and maintains a good rapport and professional relationship with fellow employees, other departments, and medical staff.
STANDARD IV : General Duties
1.\tReports to work on a regular and timely basis and complies as needed with schedule changes.
2.\tMaintains the confidentiality of patients information and records.
3. \tManages potential stressful situations caused by changes in schedules.
4. \tAssesses, evaluates patient according to policy and procedure. Communicates with the MD regarding the patients abnormal findings or difficulties.
5. \tAssists in keeping the work area clean.
STANDARD VI : Education and Training
1.\tIs accountable for maintaining and improving his / her own radiology technical knowledge and skills (Radiology Technologist Competence)
2.\tIntroduces self to patient and / or family members and explains procedures.
3.\tParticipates in training and continuing education programs.
4.\tDevelops self by seeking out new learning experiences.
5.\tEnsures that annual in services include updates in CPR, Back and Fire Safety, Universal Precautions and Code Blue. CPR is renewed every two (2) years.
6.\tResponsible for reviewing Policy and Procedure Manual.
7.\tAssist with performing lab testing and assist with patient intake as ordered by the Physician.
8.\tIs responsible for the providing patients with Radiology discharge instructions, verbal and written.
9.\tUnderstands the Chain of Command in reporting incidents during regular working hours.
10.\tPerforms other duties necessary for the proper function of the department according to the policy and procedure.
