Personal Care Aide

Essential duties and responsibilities include maintaining a healthy, safe environment, providing simple nutritional and environmental support, assisting with personal hygiene, toileting, dressing, walking, and feeding the client, positioning the client when instructed, reminding the client to take medications, doing errands when authorized, documentation on the aide charting sheet daily, reporting any important information or changes in the client's condition to the agency and / or the nursing supervisor when necessary, the use of medical supplies and equipment when appropriate, emotional support and the development of a trusting relationship between the aide and the client, and encouraging client independence.
Qualifications / education include being eighteen years of age or older, having a PCA certificate from a home health aide training program consistent with state requirements, having the maturity necessary for establishing and maintaining a good work relationship with the client, the client's family, and agency personnel, having a sincere interest in and a sympathetic attitude towards caring for the sick and disabled, getting along well with others, being dependable and trustworthy, maintaining compliance with all agency policies and procedures, maintaining in-service requirements, six hours, as specified in state and agency regulations, enjoying working with others, being a good listener, having a feeling of empathy for the sick, disabled and elderly, being sensitive to the feelings of others, being neatly dressed and having good personal hygiene habits, maintaining good health habits with regular physical and dental exams, and wearing an Always Compassionate identification badge while working.
Functional abilities include being able to lift, turn and transfer clients, being able to carry bundles up stairs weighing up to 10 pounds, being able to stoop and bend, visual / hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written and verbal communication, being able to verbalize so that the average person can understand, providing direct care according to the established client plan of care, and carrying out a wide variety of tasks under the direction of the nursing supervisor.
Work environment includes regular exposure to client elements and occasional stress. The hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
