Key responsibilities include setting up, operating, and performing minor maintenance on machines, measuring workpieces for accuracy, performing quality inspections, and ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
Machine operation : Set up and operate shears, press brakes, and plate rolling machines to cut, bend, and form metal plates, sheets, and tubes.
Blueprint interpretation : Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine correct machine settings, tooling, and material requirements.
Quality control : Measure finished parts to ensure accuracy against specifications, inspect for defects, and make adjustments as needed.
Machine setup : Adjust machine settings, set guides and stops, and select the correct dies for each job.
Maintenance : Perform routine maintenance on machines, such as oiling, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting, to ensure they are in good working order.
Safety : Adhere to all workplace safety rules and procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, and use required safety equipment.
Material handling : Load, unload, and move heavy metal pieces, sometimes using overhead cranes. Skills and qualifications
Technical skills : Ability to read and use precision measuring tools (e.g., tape measures, calipers) and operate a variety of fabrication machines.
Attention to detail : High level of accuracy and attention to detail to ensure parts meet strict specifications and to prevent material waste.
Physical ability : Good hand-eye coordination and physical stamina to stand for long periods and handle heavy materials.
Knowledge : Familiarity with blueprints, shop math, and relevant safety regulations.
Problem-solving : Ability to troubleshoot minor issues with the machines or processes.
Teamwork : Ability to work effectively with other team members to maintain production workflow.
Education : High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is often required
