Description :

This position involves caring for obstetric patients, particularly those who are 35 weeks and above.

The unit has a focus on Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum care.

There are L&D beds available, as well as triage and postpartum beds.

Additionally, there is one OR suite designated for C-sections.

The unit manages an average of 580 births per year.

Staff adheres to AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios.

Nurses are required to titrate drips, including Pitocin and magnesium sulfate.

An OB technician is available to assist and scrub for C-sections.

A pediatrician hospitalist / APRN is present 24 / 7, with obstetricians available for patients in labor.

The unit is equipped with necessary respiratory therapy equipment, and babies requiring further care are transferred to a higher level of care.

Electronic fetal monitoring is conducted using the Traceview system.

Nurses do not read their own telemetry strips as no tele / monitor techs are present.

Scheduling includes 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend and rotating holiday requirements.

There is no requirement for on-call or standby duties, nor is there floating to other units.

Dress code consists of navy blue scrubs.

Orientation consists of one day of professional development, followed by one to two days of shadowing on the unit.

The cancellation policy allows for three shifts to be canceled within a thirteen-week assignment without penalty.

The charting system utilized is MEDITECH - 6.07.
