Sr. Controls Engineer

100% on site in North Haven, CT

12-Month Contract (with potential extensions, up to 24 months)

We are seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer (Controls Engineering) to join our project team in North Haven, CT . This role is focused on the implementation of automated and manual manufacturing lines , with an emphasis on NFPA electrical standards and automation equipment integration .

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with automated assembly equipment and programming (PLC, HMI, vision systems, robotics, motion control) and a proven track record of improving equipment performance in a regulated environment.

Top Skills Needed

  • Electrical schematics, operating instructions, specifications, parameter settings, software backups, and technical documentation.
  • Electrical and controls design with experience using NFPA standards .
  • Programming and support for automated assembly equipment :
  • PLC & Safety PLC platforms (GuardLogix, CompactLogix, ControlLogix)
  • HMI (FactoryTalk ME / SE)
  • Vision inspection systems (Cognex, Keyence preferred)
  • Robotics (Staubli, Yamaha, FANUC, Epson)
  • Servo / stepper motion control and controllers
  • Process improvements to increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) .
  • Equipment specifications, supplier selection, and qualification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement best practices and standard procedures for electrical and controls engineering.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with EHS standards and product quality requirements.
  • Provide documentation for equipment support (schematics, specifications, instructions, software backups).
  • Write and execute FAT, SAT, and IQ protocols .
  • Lead cost savings, equipment retrofit, process improvement, and new equipment procurement projects.
  • Troubleshoot machine stoppages and lead root cause analysis .
  • Participate in DFMEA, PFMEA, Machine Risk Assessments, CTQ processes .
  • Create and manage equipment specifications for vendors.
  • Support validation activities across multiple projects.
  • Travel up to 10% domestically for supplier and site visits.
  • Required Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical, Controls, or Electromechanical Engineering (preferred).
  • 3–5 years of Controls Engineering experience .
  • Strong background in automated assembly equipment and electrical design.
  • Proficiency in PLC / HMI / vision systems / robotics / motion control programming.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid computer skills ( Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, AutoCAD ).
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience with machine risk assessments and electrical safety circuitry.
  • Proven project management skills .

  • Familiarity with data acquisition, IoT trends in manufacturing, and networking architecture .
  • Mechanical aptitude and cross-disciplinary skills.
