HEALTH EDUCATOR
JOB SUMMARY
The Health Educator works under the supervision of Wellness Manager and Director of Professional Development, Infection Prevention / Employee Health, Case Management and Wellness. Maintains a minimum of 60 clients; utilizes the Wellness Works Tracking System to conduct health coaching consults and works on ongoing behavior change interventions using motivational Interviewing techniques. Performs wellness screening and other duties as assigned.
Assists with developing and designing health education programs meant to increase community awareness and knowledge. Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Presents, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. Assists with health education outreach and consultation. A bachelor's degree in nutrition, health education, wellness or related area preferred. Certification in Health Coaching optional.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, always providing excellent customer service (AIDET)
- Ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
- Competent in all specialized services of work site wellness, such as blood draws, biometrics and audiogram.
- Guides and supports individuals in making sustainable lifestyle changes to improve overall health and well being.
- Provide education on nutrition, exercise, stress management, smoking cessation and other health topics based on evidence-based health practices.
- Develop and implement individualized health and wellness plans, providing ongoing support, motivation and resources.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment for clients.
- Consistently use “Final Check” and two patient identifiers.
- Accurately and efficiently uses all computer programs and documents according to policy.
- Alerts staff when supplies are needed and replenishes stock.
- Participates in committees and Process Improvement teams.
- Encourage cost savings for department and organization.
- Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and / or financial practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Wellness related field, preferred.Wellness experience required, knowledge of wellness / prevention and health coaching preferred. Skills / experience in general wellness screening preferred.Licensure
