Job Title : L&D Registered Nurse Profession : Registered Nurse Specialty : Labor and Delivery Duration : Ongoing Shift : Nights Hours per Shift : 36 hours per week Experience : Minimum of 2 years required; 3 years preferred License : Registered Nurse License Certifications : ACLS, BLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have : - Proficient in fetal monitoring and actions for fetal distress - Ability to care for patients with pre-eclampsia - Clinical background in high-risk patients - C-section experience Description : The position requires a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery. The nurse will need to handle 1-3 births per day, with an annual average of 830 births. Ratios for patient care typically are 1 : 2. Experience in a high-acuity environment is essential, as the nurse must manage emergencies until a provider arrives. There is support staff available on the unit, including a Patient Care Technician and Health Unit Secretary. The nurse manager may occasionally assist with patient care as needed. A Respiratory Therapist is present on the unit 24 / 7. Support staff includes OB scrub techs. Call is required for one shift in a four-week schedule. Nurses may float to other units, typically MedSurg, if necessary. The position may involve functioning in Labor and Delivery and couplet care when census is low. Candidates should be adept at working autonomously and applying critical assessment skills. Experience with high-risk patients is strongly preferred. The environment is fast-paced, and nurses should thrive under pressure.
