The challenge

It’s 3 : 30 pm. You power up a Takisawa CNC lathe with FANUC controls. The drawing calls for tight tolerances and clear GD&T. You choose the right workholding, kit your tools, touch off, set offsets with an offline pre-setter, and cut the first chip. You verify dimensions with calipers, micrometers, and a comparator, log your results, and keep the machine dialed in and spotless through the end of shift.

What it takes

• 3–5 years operating CNC lathes (Takisawa experience is a plus).
• Full setup capability : workholding, tooling kits, tool touch-off / offsets, first-article approval on FANUC.
• Comfort with quick-change tooling and using an offline pre-setter for tool offsets.
• Macro programming skills; proficiency with Mastercam or similar major programming software.
• Confident with GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and essential metrology tools.
• Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
