Summary
This position encompasses a variety of tasks to include but are not limited to operating a dump truck, rollers and other equipment while performing tasks related to street and alley reconstruction. Installation and maintenance of signs, as part of the Sign Maintenance Crew, and assisting with traffic counts and pavement markings as part of the R.O.W Crew.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities by Crew Assignments
Reconstruction Crew
- Operates various trucks : dump truck, backhoe, loader, roller, etc. while performing tasks related to street reconstruction and maintenance of City streets, alleys, drainages, rights-of-way, and other property
- Hauls dirt, road base, asphalt, water, pipe, equipment, debris, and other material used
- Uses hand tools and equipment for tasks associated such as shoveling, hammering, and picking
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment
Right of Way (R.O.W) Crew
Responds to calls regarding drainage, storm drain, and traffic obstructions; street glass; overhanging tree limbs; overgrown vegetation obstructing visibility; street mud and silt; alley repairs; downed signs; vandalism; street sweeping; ice and snow sanding; and flood barricade deploymentAssists with the installation and maintenance of pavement markings in the city, in accordance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TXMUTCD)Maintains alleyways and rights-of-way by operating equipment such as weed trimmers, lawn mowers, and chainsawsAssists setting out traffic counters for annual traffic counts, traffic signal warrant studies, stop warrant studies and traffic analysisSign Crew
Constructs, installs, replaces street and traffic signsConstructs and paints barricades; strip and / or reface used sign blanksChecks, cleans, and maintains equipmentSets up cones and barricades, flags traffic, assists with traffic countsTrims tree limbs from signs; removes broken tree limbs from streetsAll Crew Member - Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Works in emergency situations with sanding oil spills and frozen streets, etc.Assists other crews in the performance of duties as neededRotates on-call for nights, weekends, and emergency callsInspects and maintains equipment and toolsFollows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelinesPerforms other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications
Internal CandidatesHigh School diploma or equivalent
One (1) year of City of Temple experienceExternal CandidatesHigh School diploma or equivalent
Certificates and Licenses
Internal Candidates :Class A CDL
Flagger TrainingTXLTAP Training - 32 HrsExternal Candidates :Class A CDL
