General Summary of Position
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, provides oversight, support and training for pharmacy automation; information systems; and other related technology. Supports the Informatics Pharmacist and the departmental pharmacy operations with preparation and dispensing functions. Performs the outlined job duties at 60% or more of the regularly scheduled workday.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Consistently fulfills all the responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician II with progression in conjunction with the Specialty Pharmacy Technician Informatics duties and responsibilities.
Collaborates with the Informatics Pharmacist and Pharmacy Leadership in managing technology and information systems. Provides subject matter expertise; implementation oversight; evaluation of systems effectiveness, opportunities for improvement and system redesign, assists in troubleshooting and resolution of system issues.
Under direct supervision of a pharmacist, provides oversight of day-to-day operations and maintenance of pharmacy automation and technology including Automated Dispensing Systems; Barcode Scanning devices; Labeling and Repackaging programs; Kit Check and RFID related programs; Pharmacy Workflow Systems, IV Compounding Software, and other related technology.
Coordinates new implementations; maintenance and support of technology and information systems; system upgrades and modifications. Participates in development and maintenance of contingency and downtime plans for technology systems failure or compromise.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives, adhering to department policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety
Contributes to staffing and service needs within the Pharmacy department when necessary. Must be able to meet all requirements of a pharmacy technician, including medication preparation and delivery.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Identifies end-user educational requirements and training needs; develops educational programs, instructional materials, and appropriate tools to educate users at all levels of the organization. Works with the Informatics Pharmacist to monitor and enhance end-user satisfaction. Train new staff members on proper use of all automated and technology systems within the scope of the department.
Manages ADS inventory; restocks medications into ADS throughout hospital; optimizes medication PAR levels in ADS and other technology systems, reviews nursing discrepancy activity and participates in resolution; completes routine return bin emptying from ADS; monitors temperature and pressure of medication storage areas, monitors expiration dates of medications stored in ADS, Kit Check, and IV Room.
Point of contact for third party vendors related to service and repairs on all automated and electronic systems; point of contact for local ITSS tickets and troubleshooting; triage of phone calls and emails appropriately
Performs Quality assurance rounds, conducts weekly / monthly inspections of patient care and pharmacy areas including floor stock
Transports medication to patient care units, placing in the designated delivery locations, within established departmental standards for turnaround times.
