BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department.

Pay : $17.00-$25.00 / hourly
A BluePearl Surgery Assistant will be responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you will :
Outpatient Assistant
Assist in admitting patients to the hospital for surgical procedures; restrain for IV catheter placement and enter vitalsinto practice software
Facilitate new consults and recheck exams; speak to clients, obtain patient history, restrain for diagnostics including blood draws, radiographs, and bandage changes
Discharge post-op patients from the hospital, answer client calls and address questions while serving as a liaison between doctor and pet owner
Clean / stock common use areas
Launder patient bedding
Understand basic pharmacology of commonly used oral medications including handling, labelling, and dispensing.
Submit diagnostic samples to both in-house and reference laboratories
Calculate basic medical math
Maintain solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations
Operating Room Assistant
Gather supplies to assist technician with induction and sterile prep of patients undergoing surgical procedures; attach ECG leads and prepare fluids, warming devices and monitoring equipment
Transport patients to and from the operating suite with technicians
Properly identify and pass instruments and equipment needed during surgical procedures while maintaining sterility
Clean, disinfect, and perform closing procedures in surgical suites - maintain sterile environment while adhering to hospital protocols on infection prevention
Assist with cleaning, sterilizing, and packing medical instruments – use of autoclave and gas sterilizer machines
Set-up for post anesthetic recovery and transfer of patients to recovery ward
Maintain knowledge of and ability to perform surgical scrub for simple / elective orthopedic procedures and bothcritical and non-critical soft tissue surgeries
Demonstrate knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as it relates to a varietyof surgical procedures
