Job descriptionThree years of primary responsibility in park design, capital development, or major maintenance projects Managing, supervising, and directing staff, consultants, architects, landscape architects, engineers, land surveyors, contractors, project managers, and volunteers involved in the renovation and construction of regional parks, trail systems, and other recreation facilities Developing park development plans, technical reports from data collection, field investigation, detailed analysis, and providing recommendations based on findings Providing expertise on specialized matters concerning project design, engineering, and construction management Tracking and preparing project reports, coordinating audits, and reviewing of work performed Implementing projects from park master plans, coordinating development, landscape, and construction plans, including project scoping, criteria, specifications, and standards Coordinating and overseeing the Department's 10-year capital improvement development plan, recommending project budgets, and other maintenance / capital projects Overseeing fleet of equipment and vehicles, authorizing repairs, recommending replacement schedule, analyzing usage, and preparing utilization and cost reports Participating in the selection of consultants and contractors and overseeing construction projects Other job duties as assigned Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness / humidity, respiratory hazards and noise and vibration Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties & responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. The focus is on facility and construction activities to design, procure, and develop parks, open spaces, trails, recreation facilities, and related infrastructure. The ideal candidate is passionate about providing outdoor recreation experiences for the public and protecting natural resources for future generations.
Maricopa County parks offer visitors the best of the Sonoran Desert. At approximately 120,042 acres of parkland and 872 miles of trails, Maricopa County is home to one of the largest regional park systems in the nation. Currently, there are twelve parks in Maricopa County's regional park system. Each is unique and offers its visitors a wide variety of recreational opportunities.
The Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department oversees the Maricopa Trail, a 315-mile trail system encircling the valley and linking all regional parks. The department is staffed by a team of passionate employees, park hosts, and volunteers dedicated to providing park visitors with the best customer experience possible. Join us today!
We require :
- Five years of experience in a Parks and Recreation agency and / or field working with related development projects
- Two years of supervisory experience
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Parks and Recreation, or a related field
