Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring trauma level 1 and EVD experience, with night shifts and floating responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Work in a 32-bed Neuro ICU within an acute care hospitalCare for critical care neuro patients, including those post-craniotomy, brain tumor removal, ablations, brain biopsies, and complex spine surgeriesNurse to patient ratios are typically 1 : 2 in ICU, and 1 : 4 when floating to telemetry units12-hour night shifts (7pm-7am), with 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period and coverage of 2 out of 4 major holidaysFloating required to all ICU and telemetry floors, with a heavier load (up to 4 : 1) on tele unitsPhillips monitoring equipment and ventilators in useCerner EMR is usedResponsibilities include neurology patient management, external ventricular drain care, and monitoring ICPsParticipation in SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is requiredStrict adherence to sterile technique and hospital protocols is enforcedCharge nurse available and does not take patientsSteel grey scrubs required for neuro floors, and natural hair color and no facial piercings are allowedMen must be clean-shaven for fit testingRNs may be placed on standby for a scheduled shift and may be first to floatRequirements
Active RN license (State or Compact) required at time of applicationMinimum 2 years recent ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds) and trauma level 1 experience requiredPrevious travel nursing experience of at least 3-6 months requiredCurrent BLS and ACLS certifications requiredStrong neuro assessment and ICP monitoring skills requiredEVD experience requiredAbility to pass a dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer and a sterile technique pass / fail exam on day 1 of orientationMust provide two professional references : one supervisor from the last year, and one peer or supervisor from the last three yearsMust reside at least 50 miles from the facility as confirmed by driver’s licenseNot open to first-time travelersCannot have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past yearBenefits
