The Counseling Center assists NC State students experiencing personal, academic or vocational problems. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with professional counseling services and outreach to help them cope with issues that may impede successful academic performance. The Counseling Center also offers crisis intervention and psychological / psychiatric assessment as well as consultation with others who have concerns about the mental / emotional state of NC State students. Our services are primarily short-term in nature and we make referrals to other helping professionals and community agencies as appropriate.

    Essential Job Duties

    The Embedded Counselor emphasis in Interpersonal Violence Concerns will provide professional individual and group counseling services and outreach to NC State students as well as consultation to University administrators, staff and others who have concerns about the mental / emotional status of NC State students. This position will have an emphasis on interpersonal violence concerns.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    One full-time, 12 month position with responsibility to assist in all areas of Counseling Center functioning including :

  • Individual and group counseling of NC State students / clients (personal, academic, and vocational assessment and counseling); psychological assessment; developmental and crisis counseling; couples counseling; evaluation of students for withdrawal from the University
  • Development and participation in Outreach programming
  • Consultation with faculty staff, parents, and others
  • Providing evaluations and recommendations regarding students with academic and conduct problems
  • Some participation in after hours "on call" and possible evening office hours
  • General administrative responsibilities
  • Support of the center's interpersonal violence program
  • Responsibilities on Interpersonal Violence Concerns

  • Support of the center's efforts on interpersonal violence concerns as a co-chair of the Interpersonal Violence Treatment Team
  • Provide individual and group counseling to students who experienced interpersonal violence as survivors and / or respondents
  • Assist the Coordinator to develop and maintain updated information and resources on interpersonal violence concerns for the center and campus partners
  • Develop and participate in Outreach programs for student on interpersonal violence concerns.
  • Assist the Coordinator to provide consultation and training opportunities on interpersonal violence concerns to center staff for best practice
  • Provide consultation on interpersonal violence concerns to faculty / staff, parents, and others
  • Assist the Coordinator to develop and maintain collaboration with on and off-campus partners on interpersonal violence concerns
  • Assist the Coordinator to provide consultation to campus partners on interpersonal violence concerns and campus policies / training.
  • Help maintain updated resource information and relationships with off-campus referral resources (Interact, Women's Center of Wake County, etc.).
  • Other Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Relevant professional degree and licensure in the appropriate clinical field of psychology, social work, or mental health.
  • Other Required Qualifications

  • All clinicians must demonstrate skills and interest in training and supervision
  • Established commitment to culturally informed and responsive services
  • Candidate must possess strong clinical skills, and experience in handling crisis situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required.
  • Advanced experience in interpersonal violence / trauma treatment intervention, education and prevention.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree required in psychology, counseling, or clinical social work or closely-related field.
  • Required License(s) or Certification(s)

  • Appropriate licensure must be obtained / maintained according to NC laws.
