The Washington State Department of Corrections is looking to fill a full-time, non-permanent Corrections Specialist 4 (CS4) - CRU Specialist position within the Community Corrections Division (CCD). This position works for the Community Response Unit (CRU) located at 825 Jadwin Ave, Richland, WA 99352. This position works as an East Region Community Response Unit (CRU) Specialist assigned to the USMS Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, working under Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in an official law enforcement capacity. You will have the opportunity to employ a variety of specialized training and tactics to investigate, locate, and apprehend criminals, including fugitives and supervised individuals posing the greatest risk and concern to the community.
The criminal / fugitives that garner priority for apprehension and / or criminal investigations are typically those that have a history of violence, sex offenses, are dangerously mentally ill, and / or are an imminent threat to the safety of the community. Shift hours will be worked out with the supervisor, but 5 / 8s or 4 / 10s are available. Act as a criminal investigator responsible for performing a variety of investigative duties.
Conduct complete criminal investigations and apprehend high profile, violent wanted fugitives and individuals supervised under the jurisdictions of DOC.Participate as a member of a joint task force which is composed of federal, state, and local law enforcement personnel.Locate, research, investigate, author search warrants, and execute search warrants and seizures.Work with prosecuting attorneys at the state and federal level.Use of de-escalation techniques and the ability to communicate with offenders and fugitives in a positive and respectful manner.Provide Field Offices, Reentry Centers, and Prisons with investigational services and tactical assistance in fugitive apprehension and complex criminal investigations.
Assist CCOs, Correctional Specialists, Reentry personnel, and Prison staff with investigations.Exercise sound judgment aligned with DOC policies in decisions concerning arrests, use of force, police tactics, and fugitive and criminal investigations.Maintain good standing with federal, state, county, and local task force.Assist DOC in developing, implementing, and educating staff in Arrest Planning and Implementation; Use for Force; Arrest techniques; collection and processing of evidence; most current court cases; and laws.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Three years of experience as a Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2), CCO3, and / or Community Corrections Supervisor (CCS).Must possess and maintain an unrestricted vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Washington.Must have the legal, constitutional right to carry a department-issued firearm.Must have successfully passed a department psychological assessment.Must have successfully graduated the Community Correction Officer Academy (CCOA).Must have successfully graduated / completed the Community Corrections Firearms Academy and are currently armed.The successful candidate must be willing and able to :
Work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts and be on call 24 hours a day.Be free from the use of narcotics or controlled substances (marijuana is a controlled substance).Be willing to travel on short notice in support of the CRU mission.Work in all weather conditions.Applicants assigned to a Task Force will be required to :
Be fingerprinted and successfully pass a thorough background investigation performed by the assigned partnering federal agency / task force. Applicants unable to successfully pass the thorough background investigation will be removed from the hiring process and not considered for the position.Successfully complete a basic law enforcement academy or equivalent law enforcement training within 12 months from the date of hire, which may include completion of a physical fitness test prior to entry.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or University whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).Experience working with a local police agency and assisting them with their agency needs. This includes working patrol operations, special events, arrest / search operations, etc. Be prepared to provide agency contact information and specific examples of this work that can be verified.Instructor in any Use of Force discipline (Firearms, Taser, Control Impedance, and Tactics / Defensive Tactics).If selected for hire, you may be required to meet the following SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
