General Definition of Job Function
Experience in Endoscopy is a plus but not required.
To ensure that all duties assigned are done in a timely manner and to participate in patient care.
Responsibilities and Duties
Perform the following duties on a daily basis or as needed :
- Demonstrate awareness of patients’ concerns and a willingness to address them.
- Avoid and prevent casual discussion of patient’s surgery among employees.
- Ensure patients’ safety and comfort.
- Observe pertinent changes in symptoms of patients’ condition and take appropriate action; report to physician.
- Document all pertinent messages or communication with patient in patient’s chart.
- Initiate emergency measures as indicated.
- Perform pre- and postoperative teachings with patients.
- Assist the Administrator in preparation of teaching charts as needed.
- Review preoperative charts to ensure all lab studies and necessary paperwork are available for surgery.
- Be prepared for all cases at the scheduled surgery times.
- Complete Operative Room / Recovery Room Records.
- Occasionally keep patient in Recovery Room until stable for discharge.
- Accountable for administration of drugs, IV procedures and other therapeutic measures in a safe environment for the patient to prevent potential injury
- Clean and restock Pre-Procedure and Recovery Rooms.
- Provides a safe environment for the patients, prevent potential injury. Investigates and intervenes in problem situations, reporting appropriate information to supervisor and documenting same.
- Perform chart audits for surgical center.
- Anticipates and assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and medications.
- Initiates patient teaching and discussion of home instructions and documentation for patient understanding
- Assist the Director of Nursing with postoperative patient follow-up.
- Provides guidance to other staff members during their orientation.
- Consults with appropriate supervisor or physicians as needed.
- Assist with updating of printed material.
- Answer phones, take messages (pull corresponding patient chart as needed), and transfer calls when appropriate.
- Pull required paperwork for pre-operative appointments.
- Check charts for completeness and close out.
- Initiate communication to the Administrator in areas that require feedback, follow-up, or need to be addressed.
- Ensure quality assurance standards are maintained in the office.
- Other duties as assigned.
Principle Accountability
Provide nursing services to ensure the center’s objectives are achieved in an effective, timely, and efficient manner.
Qualifications for the Position
Holds current state licensure as a licensed practical nurse in the state of Georgia; demonstrates current competency in those clinical responsibilities as listed previously. BLS / ACLS required.
Nursing skills obtained through applicable job experience and / or appropriate education; strong sense of professionalism; ability to organize work according to priorities; maturity and tact in dealing with patients, clients, and co-workers; ability to maintain a helpful and positive regard for the patient and family.
