Job description

The Opportunity

The Medical Director will serve as a physician advisor and strategic clinical leader, supporting consultants, producers, analytics, and population health teams. This role will elevate the firm's clinical credibility in prospect and finalist presentations, drive improved outcomes through high-cost claim management, and shape actionable strategies from data and clinical trends.

As an outward-facing operator, the Medical Director will represent the organization in client engagements and industry forums, helping to build out the clinical practice and develop point solutions that mitigate loss and contain cost.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Practice Development

  • Serve as the central clinical subject matter expert across the firm.
  • Help build and evolve the Clinical Practice, including team structure, capabilities, and service offerings.
  • Represent the organization externally through thought leadership, speaking engagements, and industry roundtables.
  • Bring the "pulse of the industry" to internal teams and clients, identifying emerging trends and innovations.

Client Engagement & Business Development

  • Participate in prospect and finalist meetings to provide clinical insight and credibility.
  • Act as a clinical advisor in client stewardship meetings, supporting consultants with strategic recommendations.
  • Serve as an outward-facing operator to clients, translating clinical strategy into business impact.
  • Develop client-facing reports and case studies highlighting clinical trends and opportunities.
  • Clinical Strategy & Oversight

  • Review high-cost claims and collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to identify intervention opportunities (e.g., steerage, Centers of Excellence, site-of-care optimization, fraud / waste / abuse).
  • Provide clinical oversight for vendor evaluations (e.g., MSK, oncology, weight management).
  • Support actuarial and underwriting teams with medical context for claim projections and stop-loss strategy.
  • Partner with Population Health to align engagement strategies with cost drivers and chronic condition trends.
  • Data-Driven Insights & Innovation

  • Collaborate with analytics to interpret cost drivers, utilization patterns, and emerging risks.
  • Co-develop clinical dashboards and tools that translate data into actionable strategy.
  • Answer ad hoc clinical questions related to pharmacy, large claims, utilization, and chronic conditions.
  • Deliver internal and external thought leadership through white papers, presentations, and trend analyses.
  • Solution Development

  • Design and refine point solutions to address specific clinical challenges and mitigate financial risk.
  • Evaluate ROI and clinical impact of vendor programs and renewal strategies.
  • The Candidate

    Experience and Professional Qualifications

  • MD or DO required; PhD may be considered depending on experience and accomplishments.
  • Active Medical License.
  • Experience in health plan, consulting, or population health leadership roles.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
