Job Summary

Under the leadership and supervision of OTOP Intake & Counseling Services Director, the OTOP Intake Social Worker will play a key role in providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed, person-centered, harm reduction substance use counseling. Follow up care will be coordinated with OTOP's interdisciplinary team and outside providers or supports based on individual participant needs and interests. This will include performing biopsychosocial needs assessment with participants and utilizing evidence-based models of care including but not limited to CBT, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention planning and case management. The clinician will support identification, implementation, and monitoring of contingency management or motivational incentives based on participant identified goals. In addition to the standard OTOP Intake Counselor responsibilities, the clinician will work with the OTOP Intake Team and OTOP Deputy Medical Director to identify opportunities and interventions to improve patient services based on Community Advisory Board feedback and clinical data analysis. The clinician may provide evidence-based talk therapy and case management to a select cohort of patients having trouble accessing mental health/psychiatric services despite receiving referrals and demonstrated motivation for treatment engagement. Although the clinician's main site will be SF General Hospital, cross-coverage within the intake team may be required as needed, including at Bayview and jail sites.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $40.62 - $54.41 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Department of Psychiatry at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) is dedicated to providing culturally competent services to the diverse patient population we serve. Providing a range of clinical services informed by evidence-based practices, the Department of Psychiatry provides care to thousands of patients each year. The Division of Substance Abuse and Addiction Medicine (DSAAM) provides multi-disciplinary consultation and treatment for patients with substance use disorders at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH). DSAAM provides opiate replacement therapy for heroin and other opiate addiction through the Opiate Treatment Outpatient Program (OTOP) at Ward 93 as a well-established and proven effective methadone treatment program.

Opiate Treatment Outpatient Program (OTOP) is operated through the UCSF Department of Psychiatry's Division of Substance Abuse and Addiction Medicine (DSAAM) at San Francisco General Hospital in partnership with the San Francisco Department of Public Health. OTOP provides evidence-based outpatient treatment for substance use disorders with particular emphasis on medications for opioid addiction treatment.

OTOP is expanding intake services to increase access to methadone treatment in San Francisco. This is an exciting time to join our team as we grow and transform with the expansion of our services at SF General Hospital and at other locations around the city. With our partnership with Jail Health Services at San Francisco County Jail, OTOP also supports patients in enrolling in opioid treatment and offers substance use counseling while in-custody, with the goal of improving continuity of care between jails and community providers. Required Qualifications

• CSW I: Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling or a related field from an accredited university or school of Social Work and registration/possession of the requirements necessary for application for registration as an associate clinical social worker as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• CSW II: Master's degree from an accredited school of social work, and possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as a clinical social worker as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
• Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
• Demonstrates resourcefulness, effective written and oral communication, diplomacy, organizational and analytic skills.
• Self-directed, assertive and creative in problem solving, systems planning and patient care management.
• Basic computer skills. Experience with electronic health record systems (EHR), specifically Methasoft, Avatar and Epic.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
• Able to provide age-appropriate assessments, interpretation of data, and delivery of interventions. Ability to work with any patient regardless of race, gender, religious affiliation, cultural beliefs, lifestyle, and disease process or treatment plan.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated excellence in reliability and attendance. Must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changes in policy or procedure.
• Experience and knowledge in providing evidence-based psychotherapy and substance use counseling for adults with OUD, severe psychosocial stressors, and acute and/or chronic trauma history.
• Capacity to be reflective about work and role
• Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with opioid use disorder treatment including medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD)
• Knowledge of Federal, State and City/County Opiate Treatment Program (OTP) regulations. Aware of institutional polices regarding the provision of services and conduct of research in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR.
• Experience and knowledge of perinatal mental health needs when engaged in MOUD and family systems.
• Experience working with unhoused patients.
• Experience working with immigrant populations.
• Experience working with justice involved populations.
• Minimum 2 years' experience working in substance use and/or mental health field with low-income, culturally diverse populations.

License/Certification

• Registration/eligible for application for registration as an associate social worker as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners.
