Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level I Trauma Emergency Department position requiring a compact or NE RN license and night shift availability.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Level I Trauma Center Emergency Department in an acute care hospital setting
  • 20 ED beds, 5 trauma bays, 10 observation beds, 6 Fast Track beds, and 3 triage beds
  • Patient population includes trauma, sepsis, chest pain, respiratory distress, and stroke cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 4 in zones, 1 : 6 in Fast Track, 1 : 5 in observation, 1 : 1 in ICU / Trauma
  • 12-hour night shifts with scheduling determined by leadership
  • Required to float to the observation unit and a freestanding emergency room at least once per week
  • Uses Epic EMR, with competency in charting required
  • One week of onboarding includes orientation shifts at multiple locations
  • Security is present in-house 24 / 7 within the ER
  • Responsibilities include care of high-acuity emergency and trauma patients, reading and interpreting cardiac monitor strips, and working collaboratively with ED physicians, mid-levels, charge nurses, and support staff
  • Nurse aids, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters provide additional team support on each shift
  • Holiday and weekend work will be scheduled based on department needs
  • Initial orientation includes both skills training and unit-specific onboarding at multiple emergency care locations
  • All required documentation and references must be provided prior to consideration
  • Fast-paced, high-acuity environment with frequent exposure to trauma and complex medical emergencies

    • Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact RN license required
  • Minimum of 2 years recent ED nursing experience
  • Required certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Must provide a driver's license for radius compliance
  • Must live at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Cannot have full time, part time, or PRN employment with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
  • Must pass a skills exam with a minimum score of 90% during orientation
  • Physical demands require compliance with fingernail policy (artificial nails prohibited)
  • Two references required : one supervisor from the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
