Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Student Respiratory Therapist (SRT) assists licensed respiratory therapist by providing the most basic respiratory therapy treatments and procedures. The SRT performs patient and family care and documentation at the most basic performance level under the direct, immediate, and on premise supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist. The SRT performs airway clearance, administers aerosolized medications, and assists with oxygen therapy administration / transport.
Requirements
Minimum Education
- Currently enrolled in a CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy Program with successful completion of their first semester of course work.
Minimum Work Experience
Provision of care with patients.Experience preferred but will provide on the job trainingRequired Skills
Current student license to practice Respiratory Care in KentuckyBasic Life Support (BLS) provider meeting AHA standards.Excellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work in a team environmentFUNCTIONAL DEMANDS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assess patients systematically using clinical skills to establish and maintain the appropriate level of Respiratory Care to be administered.Adheres to policies and procedures regarding personal protective equipment, and hygiene, patient isolations procedure and proper identification of patient.Documents necessary information regarding patient care, patient responses, and billing within the department and medical records.Demonstrates the assessment skills and ability to act independently in recognizing signs and symptoms of failure in the patient.Consistently process his / her own equipment including cleaning, sterilizing, drying, assembling and operation verification when applicable.Appropriately removes medications from the medication system, and ensures accuracy in count, name and medication type.Accurately and completely enters information required documentation of medicationORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONS
