What this job involves
As an Operating Engineer, your primary responsibility will be the operation and maintenance of facility mechanical systems and related automation. Your role is crucial in ensuring that all building systems operate safely, efficiently, and effectively, thereby protecting and enhancing the value of our client's assets. You'll be tasked with implementing reliability-based maintenance practices and continuously improving operations to maximize system performance. This position demands technical expertise across multiple building systems, quick response to emergency situations, and a commitment to maintaining safe and compliant facilities.
What your day-to-day will look like
- Operating and maintaining essential building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire / life safety, temperature controls, and critical environments.
- Responding to and resolving system alarms, such as O2 and CO2 sensors, through effective troubleshooting and corrective action.
- Conducting regular building rounds and maintaining detailed engineering logs and data sheets.
- Troubleshooting mechanical equipment, drives, and actuators using Building Automation Systems (BAS) tools and manufacturer standards.
- Performing maintenance and repairs on steam systems, humidifiers, and steam traps.
- Managing computerized maintenance management systems for work planning and documentation.
- Supporting and monitoring contractor activities within the building.
- Responding to various facility emergencies, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry issues.
- Developing estimates and presenting proposals to site leadership.
- Maintaining infrastructure and compliance documentation.
- Collaborating with team members across trades to complete objectives.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.2nd Class Fireman's License for the state of Massachusetts.Minimum 1 year of facility-related work experience.Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS).Knowledge of Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.Ability to read and understand operator manuals, specifications, and drawings.Physical capacity to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.Ability to climb extension ladders, roof ladders, and stairs as needed.Flexibility to bend / stoop, squat, and stretch / reach repetitively during shift.Willingness to participate in a respiratory protection plan (using respirator or PAPR).Availability to respond to after-hours emergencies on-site when needed.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance practices.Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to building infrastructure.Customer service experience.Leadership or supervisory experience.Experience working in critical environments.Background in maintaining and troubleshooting multiple types of building systems.Experience with inventory management of critical spare parts.Familiarity with contractor management and oversight.Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.Proactive approach to safety hazard identification and remediation.Location : Onsite
Work Shift : Monday-Friday 6am-2pm; On Call as needed
