Registered Nurse - Oncology Inpatient Care

The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care on the oncology inpatient unit. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising individual patient care according to established unit policies and procedures. You will also supervise non-RN staff and take on charge responsibilities when required, ensuring high-quality service at all times.

Responsibilities

1. Continuously assess the physical and psychosocial condition of patients throughout their care journey.
2. Develop and document individualized care plans that involve the patient, family, and healthcare team to achieve desired outcomes.
3. Implement and coordinate care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
4. Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans based on patient responses and readiness for discharge, making adjustments as needed.
5. Identify educational needs of patients and families, providing tailored education and documenting outcomes.
6. Act as a mentor and preceptor for new staff.
7. Oversee unit operations in the charge nurse role.
8. Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development.
9. Perform additional duties as assigned to maintain department efficiency.
10. Demonstrate competency in caring for neuro patients and provide specialized skills in neuro assessment and airway management.
11. Assist with special neuro procedures and possess knowledge of the 'Tia' teaching program.
12. Perform suctioning according to policy, including pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy procedures.
13. Show proficiency with equipment used for patients in halo braces and manage nursing responsibilities for ventilated patients.

Qualifications

Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and able to utilize internet resources for patient care literature.

Licensure:
Valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License.

Full-time and part-time schedules are available on night shifts or rotating days and nights.
