Job descriptionPrimarily 7 : 00 am 3 : 30 pm work hours, Monday-Friday Exposure to loud noise Exposure to fumes, caustic chemicals, odors, gasses, dusts, etc. that may affect breathing, eyes and skin Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment as appropriate, which CDOT provides Required to work with chemicals and cleaning products Use of ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10 20' Occasionally lift or team lift 50+ lbs. Required to use various hand and power tools Required to operate CDOT vehicles Required to work snow deployment requires snow shift schedule May be required to attend out of town trainings, work out of town, work on other patrols, work above 10,000 feet May be required to work on other patrols, in other sections, nights, and in high volume traffic situations Must be willing and be physically able to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), variable weather conditions Required to use computers to accomplish everyday work duties The average work week is 40 hours a week, with periodic overtime due to emergencies or inclement weather Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the structural trades (carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting or masonry). At least two years of experience and / or education that includes a combination of the following : Experience in the structural trades (carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting or masonry). Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher-level course work from an accredited, non-correspondence, vocation or trades school appropriate to the work assignment may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Documentation of this must be submitted with your application. Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks. A current valid driver license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position. Required to be on-call and to perform shift work. Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section. Years of State service experience related to the duties of this position. Highest work / personal ethics and integrity. Knowledge of and experience in the skilled labor crafts of carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, construction, painting, and masonry. Experience effectively using several types of hand and power tools. Working knowledge and understanding of the best practices for fire, safety, and ADA rules and regulations. Experience reading, understanding and applying information from equipment manuals. Ability to evaluate maintenance / repair requirements and estimate costs. Excellent reasoning, troubleshooting, and problem solving ability. Strong commitment to safety. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Effective oral communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills. Ability to work with employees at all levels within the organization. Self-starter and motivated to accomplish tasks. Strong positive and can do attitude. Strong customer service skills. Ability to work effectively in both independent and team situations. Openness to change and new information; adapting behavior and work methods in response to changing conditions or unexpected obstacles. Fluency in MS Word, MS Excel, Google Documents, Gmail, SAP, and ability to quickly learn other software systems.
Structural Trades I / Building Maintenance
The Structural Trades I / Building Maintenance position is located in Region 1, Maintenance Section 5 in Aurora. Maintenance Section 5 exists to provide the best possible work environment by performing all the various repairs, improvements, modifications, and additions to 155 buildings at 38 maintenance sites in 14 counties as well as maintaining, repairing, or replacing all building equipment in Region 1.
This position will ensure adequate performance of heating and air conditioning systems, fuel systems, flooring (carpet, tile, concrete), roofs (shingle and metal), doors, windows, locks, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other related trades work. Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Maintain building key and lock systems, key records, key by code, installing / repairing locks, rekeying / master keying locks.
- Assist in the installation of garage doors; measure and repair all types of doors such as man-doors, overhead garage door, electric garage door openers and man-door closures.
- Install or repair 1 / 4" to 6" pipe using copper, galvanized, black and plastic pipe.
- Assist with remodeling of offices, additions to buildings and new construction.
- Assist with installation or repair of above ground fuel tanks, fuel pumps and piping waste oil tanks placement and building secondary containment, and repair of different heaters.
- Perform snow removal in parking lots and sidewalks using snow shovels, and light to heavy duty equipment.
- Clean offices, dust, vacuum, wash windows, clean blinds, rest rooms, mop, wax and strip floors; wash walls, disinfect urinals, toilets, sinks, mirrors, paint offices; and perform other related custodial duties.
- Maintain records of all maintenance and repair work utilizing computer systems.
- Other job duties as assigned.
