Job descriptionIV therapy / Phlebotomy Administration of blood & blood products Drawing Venous Blood Starting and maintaining IVs Use of infusion pumps / drips / IV monitoring Labor and Delivery Management Amnioinfusion Assist with high risk delivery Assist with vaginal delivery Circulate for C-section Forceps / vacuum extraction Hemorrhage / shock Recover C-Section Sterile vaginal exam Work Settings Antepartum Facility births / month 200-300 High Risk Antepartum Labor and Delivery Medication & Administration Antihypertensives Insulin drips Magnesium Sulfate therapy Pitocin (oxytocin) Prostaglandins Terbutaline Neonatal Care in Delivery Room APGAR scores Baby Nurse (“Baby Catcher”) Collect cord samples ID / Security Banding Radiant Warmers / Thermoregulation Antepartum Care and Procedures Assist with sterile speculum exam (effacement, dilation, station, presentation) NST (Non Stress Tests) Reflex checks / edema assessment / clonus Sterile vaginal exam Triage of obstetrical patients Postpartum Care and Procedures Breastfeeding Support / lactation support Episiotomy / Incisional Care Foley catheter insertion / management Fundus / lochia / perineum care Wound Assessment and Care Postpartum Care of the Patient with Cesarean Section Multiple Births Postpartum Hemorrhage Pregnancy induced hypertension Vaginal Delivery Surgical Case / Procedures D & C Pain Management Epidural Anesthesia General Anesthesia Pain assessment & management Fetal Monitoring Recognition and Treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns Use of External Fetal Monitoring Use of Internal Fetal Monitoring Use of IUPC (Intrauterine pressure catheter) placement and calibration Excellent growth and advancement opportunities
