Substitute Custodial Worker
Weekend shifts vary between 8 : 00am - 8 : 00pm. Custodial experience preferred, but not required, consideration is also given for work history including customer service, work with / around children, grounds-keeping, manual labor, or other fast-paced work environments. Perform a variety of standardized custodial work in the upkeep of District-owned buildings and facilities. Perform other related work as required. Supervisory relationships receive technical instructions and supervision from a lead person. Supervision is provided by a building administrator or site-based administrator. Distinguishing characteristics include positions performing general custodial work, routine tasks under standing instructions, and use of mechanical equipment for tasks such as stripping, waxing, and washing floors. Essential functions include sweeping floors, vacuuming rugs and carpets, emptying wastebaskets, removing trash, cleaning chalkboards, mopping and sanitizing buildings, disposing of trash, maintaining gym floors, coordinating scheduled night time activities, maintaining security, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors and hallways, maintaining regular and prompt attendance, and performing other related duties as assigned.
Ability to learn about various cleaning chemicals, solvents, and equipment used in custodial work. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and perform the required work independent of direct supervision. Some mechanical abilities to troubleshoot and perform non-complex repairs to power tools and equipment. Good physical condition to perform lifting (25 - 75 pounds), floor buffing, and other manual labor tasks. Ability to apply safe work practices in the performance of work. Ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with students, staff, administrators, and others. Adaptability and flexibility to perform work with changing priorities and interruptions. Experience differentiating practices for diverse populations. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.
Sufficient education to read and follow simple verbal and written instructions. No custodial work experience is required. Bilingual proficiency and / or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
