POSITION OVERVIEW
Orange County Public Schools is seeking dedicated Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to provide direct nursing care and support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in a dynamic school environment. LPNs assist in promoting student wellness, managing routine health needs, and supporting emergency preparedness to ensure a safe and healthy learning community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and OCPS protocols.
- Assist with health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis, BMI) as required by Florida statutes.
- Maintain accurate, confidential health records in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA.
- Respond to medical emergencies; provide first aid and assist RN with CPR / AED as needed.
- Monitor and support students with chronic conditions (diabetes, asthma, seizures, allergies).
- Implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) under RN direction.
- Support 504 accommodations and health-related student plans.
- Conduct basic health education for students and staff (handwashing, hygiene).
- Track immunizations and assist with Florida Certificate of Immunization (DH 680) compliance.
- Collaborate with school staff to identify students with health concerns and report to RN.
- Assist with infection control measures (head lice checks, flu monitoring, COVID protocols).
- Work under the direction and supervision of an RN or physician.
- Document care provided and promptly report changes in student condition to supervising RN.
- Support RN in emergency preparedness and staff training activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
License : Current Florida LPN licenseCertification : CPR / AED (American Heart Association or Red Cross)Experience : 1+ year clinical experience preferredBackground : Level 2 fingerprint clearance (FDLE / FBI)Other : with OCPS badge / willing to obtain OCPS badge
