Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our engineering and estimating teams. This critical role combines technical expertise with strong leadership skills to drive operational excellence, optimize manufacturing processes, and ensure accurate costing. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in sheet metal fabrication and CNC machining, with demonstrated experience managing technical teams and improving operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering
- Oversee all engineering activities, internally support the production of customer products and externally advise customers on the best practices for design for manufacturability.
- Collaborate with the production team to resolve technical challenges and improve manufacturability
- Serve as technical subject matter expert for complex customer requirements
- Evaluate and recommend new manufacturing technologies and processes
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, procedures, and documentation
- Drive implementation of lean manufacturing principles and process optimization initiatives
Estimating
Manage the estimating team to ensure accurate and competitive quotesUtilize currently deployed state-of-the-art estimating software to continually improve and maintain standardized estimating proceduresReview complex and high-value estimates in detail to provide technical guidance on feasibility and pricingTeam Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering and estimating teams by establishing performance metrics, conducting regular reviews, and providing career development guidanceFoster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvementRecruit, onboard, and retain high-quality engineering talentCross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with sales, production, and quality teams to exceed customer expectationsParticipate in customer meetings and technical discussions as neededContribute to strategic planning and business development activitiesRequired Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related fieldMinimum of 10 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication and / or CNC machiningAt least 5 years of management experience leading engineering or technical teamsProven track record of managing estimating functions and cost analysisTechnical Skills
Expert knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes (laser cutting, turret punching, forming, welding, finishing) and CNC machining (milling, turning, Swiss-screw machining)Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion, or similar)Knowledge of materials, tolerances, and manufacturing specifications with an expert understanding of engineering drawings and GD&TExperience with manufacturing ERP systemsUnderstanding of quality control principles and inspection methodsLeadership & Communication
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop technical teamsExperience managing budgets and resource allocationExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environmentPreferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Engineering or Business AdministrationExperience with ISO 9001 or other quality management systemsKnowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologiesExperience in customer-facing roles and business developmentBackground in multiple manufacturing industries (aerospace, industrial, transportation, etc.)What We Offer
