Qualifications :
- Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field
- Master's Degree in Mathematics Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or Mathematics Preferred
- Current, Valid Michigan Teacher Certification (Required)
- Michigan Middle School Mathematics Endorsement (Preferred)
- A minimum of 3 years of effective mathematics teaching experience, preferably in middle grades (6-8)
- Strong content knowledge in middle school mathematics standards and curriculum
- Experience with co-teaching models and collaborative instruction
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse learners and implement differentiated instruction
- Knowledge of research-based mathematics intervention strategies
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
- Ability to analyze student data and design targeted interventions
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment
Position Description :
A Math Specialist at DAAS plays a crucial role in supporting middle school students (grades 6-8) in developing mathematical proficiency and confidence. This position focuses on providing targeted instruction through co-teaching partnerships, small-group interventions, and individualized support to ensure all students achieve grade-level mathematics standards. The Math Specialist works collaboratively with classroom teachers to enhance mathematics instruction and support students who need additional intervention. Physical Requirements : Light Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Ability to work with manipulatives and mathematics materials.
Terms of Employment : Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. The salary range for this position is $51,300 - $88,700. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
Evaluation : Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Lead Instructional Specialist in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with general education mathematics teachers to provide co-teaching support in inclusive classroom settingsCollaborate in planning, delivering, and assessing mathematics instruction using various co-teaching models (team teaching, parallel teaching, station teaching, alternative teaching)Support classroom teachers in implementing research-based mathematics instructional strategies and best practicesAssist in differentiating mathematics instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learnersProvide targeted small-group instruction for students requiring additional mathematics supportDesign and implement intervention programs based on individual student needs and data analysisUtilize diagnostic assessments to identify specific skill gaps and develop targeted intervention plansMonitor student progress through frequent formative assessments and adjust instruction accordinglyCoordinate with special education staff and ELL specialists to support students with diverse learning needsWork with teachers to align mathematics curriculum and instructional practices with state standards and district curriculum frameworkAssist in the selection and implementation of effective mathematics instructional materials and resourcesSupport teachers in developing and implementing authentic mathematics assessmentsAnalyze student achievement data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement in mathematics instructionProvide professional development and coaching to mathematics teachers on effective instructional strategiesModel effective mathematics teaching practices through demonstration lessons and co-teachingSupport teachers in implementing new mathematics curricula, technologies, and instructional approachesFacilitate professional learning communities focused on mathematics instruction and student achievementProvide individual tutoring and support to students struggling with mathematics conceptsDevelop and coordinate mathematics enrichment activities and competitionsSupport students in developing mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and communication skillsFoster positive attitudes toward mathematics learning and build student confidenceCollect and analyze formative and summative assessment data to inform mathematics instructionTrack student progress toward mathematics learning goals and standardsCollaborate with classroom teachers to develop data-driven instructional strategiesCommunicate student progress to teachers, administrators, and familiesCommunicate with families about student mathematics progress and provide strategies for home supportCoordinate and facilitate mathematics family engagement events and activitiesCollaborate with community partners to enhance mathematics learning opportunitiesComplete other duties and responsibilities as designated by the Lead Instructional Specialist and other school administrationWe offer many exciting and innovative educational programs that are designed to develop young minds and prepare them academically, socially and emotionally for successful futures.
