Specialized Health Paraprofessionals perform various tasks in assisting with students' physical and educational needs. Roles are in locations from general education classrooms to highly specialized programming for students with profound disabilities. You must be comfortable attending to all of a students personal needs.
The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
- Perform specialized physical health care services for students, including suctioning, blood sugar testing, medication administration, drip and tube feeding administration, changing diapers, and other specialized services; operate specialized medical equipment and instruments in assessing and treating individuals.
- Respond to emergencies, evaluate the condition of students, and provide health instruction and care as needed.
- Provides basic instructional assistance to the student in the classroom or on field trips
- Works with the students individually or in small groups, tutoring, and reinforcing lesson plans
- Assists the teacher in maintaining an attractive and stimulating classroom and in responding to the personal needs of the children
- Assists teachers with duties related to special education, including calling parents regarding meetings, obtaining information from the students' confidential files, making copies of transcripts, making copies of schedules and finding out about their attendance
- Instills personal hygiene, good grooming and manners
- Performs other related duties as required
