Vaco is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Controller for one of our mid-market, private equity-backed clients. This is a hands-on role that will be instrumental in building a scalable accounting function, driving financial rigor, and supporting strategic growth initiatives. This Controller will supervised a small team and be very hands on with the day-to-day accounting – managing AR / AP, processing payroll, filing sales taxes and dealing with the auditors.
They are open to Sr. Managers or Assistant Controllers looking to take that next step to Controller and offer 4 weeks PTO out of the gates as well as solid 401k match and full healthcare benefits.
Compensation : $130-150K + bonus
Key Responsibilities
Monthly Close & Reporting : Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Prepare timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Audit & Compliance : Lead annual financial audits and ensure compliance with all financial and tax regulations.
Internal Controls : Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
PE Reporting : Prepare financial packages, KPIs, and ad hoc reports for private equity sponsors and board-level presentations.
Systems & Process Improvement : Evaluate and improve financial systems, tools, and processes to increase efficiency and scalability. Assist with ERP upgrades or implementations as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
Experience in a private equity-backed, growth-stage, or mid-market company is required.
Hands-on experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar).
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks.
