Salary :
The Laborer position supports the overall construction project and performs a variety of tasks geared toward maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient job site. Tasks involve physical labor at the construction site and in the shop. Duties may include repairing, operating and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, cleaning and preparing job sites and removing rubble and debris, erecting and taking down scaffolding and temporary structures, and removing waste materials. This position allows for flexibility but emphasizes that welding and painting are not the primary responsibilities. Some travel required.
Essential Duties
Material Handling and Inventory
- Load and unload materials (steel, wood, etc.) using forklifts, hoists, or by hand
- Organize and store tools, equipment, and materials in designated areas
- Track inventory levels of consumables (nuts, bolts, paints) and notify supervisors for restocking
- Assist labor teams with tasks
Shop Labor and Equipment Maintenance
Clean and maintain workshop area, ensuring it is safe and organizedPerform basic maintenance on shop equipment, i.e. saws, drills, and weldersPerform a variety of tasks involving manual labor in construction projectsAssist with setting up and cleaning job sites for construction or fabrication tasksPerform light maintenance on equipment, i.e. oil and filter changes on light towers, skid steers, and generators, fueling equipment, etc.Assist Skilled Workers
Assist welders, machinists, and fabricators by holding materials, positioning parts, or prepping materialsMeasure and cut raw materials to specified lengths using hand tools or machineryGeneral Fabrication Support
Prepare materials for fabrication, i.e.cleaning, grinding edges, cutting steel piecesSand, clean, and prepare surfaces for painting or weldingAssemble prefabricated parts under supervisionOccasional Welding Duties :
Basic Welding Tasks
Perform simple welding tasks (MIG, TIG, or Stick) under the supervision of skilled weldersCheck welding equipment for functionality and make basic adjustmentsInspect and clean welded joints for quality and precisionWeld Preparation
Prep materials and surfaces before welding by grinding, cutting, or sandingOccasional Painting Duties :
Metal Surface Preparation for Painting
Clean, sand, and de-grease fabricated metal surfaces prior to paintingMask or cover areas that should not be paintedPainting and Finishing
Apply primers, paints, and finishes to fabricated metal parts using spray guns, brushes, or rollersInspect finished surfaces for smoothness and uniformity, making touch-ups if necessaryEquipment Maintenance for Painting
Maintain and clean painting equipment (spray guns and brushes)Safely store paints, solvents, and other hazardous materials following proper safety protocolsSafety and Compliance :
Follow Safety Procedures
Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing tasks, including welding masks, gloves, and respiratorsFollow OSHA safety guidelines and company protocols to ensure a safe work environmentVisibly support and uphold the companys strong safety cultureHandle hazardous materials, i.e. paints and welding gases according to safety proceduresRemain current in all company required safety training and certificationsPortray a positive attitude and demonstrate professional customer service skillsDocumentation and Reporting

High school diploma or equivalentThree years of experience in the commercial / industrial / agricultural construction industry preferredPossess a valid drivers license of proper class and necessary endorsements as required by law and legally able to drive vehicles / construction equipmentTravel Requirements - frequent travel (up to 50%) with occasional overnight stays required for this positionSkilled in using a variety of tools and equipment ranging from forklifts to backhoes and bulldozersPhysical strength and ability to do physical labor in all weather conditionsStrong mathematical skills preferredOSHA Forklift Operator Certification preferredPhysical Demands / Working Environment
The physical demands described here are representative to be successful in this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to lift, bend, stretch, stand, walk, sit, and carry up to 50 pounds, balance, stoop, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, push / pull, squat, crouch, and crawl.Employee must be able to enter the cab of a vehicle that is 3.5 feet (or more) off the ground; be able to sit in the operators seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required to safely operate the equipment, and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and / or mirrors.There will be frequentexposure to moderate, and occasionally loud, noise levels. For safety reasons, the candidate must be able to communicate effectively in this moderate to loud environment.
