Job Title: Construction Inspector
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Construction Inspector responsible for the inspection and observation of various MDOT, Local Agency, and private road and water projects throughout Southeast Michigan. The role involves handling daily reports using Field Book or AASHTOWare and collaborating with internal and external teams. The inspector will work on underground utility, road, and bridge construction projects, read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and maps, and evaluate and review plans and specifications for job sites. Density and concrete testing will be performed as needed. The role requires the ability to work in all weather conditions and reliable transportation, as work trucks may not be provided immediately. During summer months, expect to work 50-60 hours per week, including some weekends if necessary. Winter months may not guarantee a full 40-hour workweek due to project slowdowns.
Responsibilities
Inspect and observe various MDOT, Local Agency, and private projects.
Handle daily reports using Field Book or AASHTOWare.
Collaborate with internal and external teams.
Work on underground utility, road, and bridge construction projects.
Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and maps.
Evaluate and review plans and specifications for job sites.
Perform density and concrete testing as needed.
Work in all weather conditions.
Provide own transportation and track mileage for reimbursement.
Essential Skills
2+ years of construction inspection/observation experience.
Experience with MDOT or Local Agency/Municipal projects (at least 1 season).
Clean driving record.
Knowledge and experience with Field Book/Field Manager.
Ability to work 50-60 hours in busy months.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
5+ years of inspection experience.
MDOT Certifications (HMA, Density, Concrete, etc.).
Experience with AASHTOWare reporting.
Associate's degree in Civil or similar technical field.
Knowledge of Bluebeam.
Work Environment
The work environment primarily involves fieldwork at job sites from Monday to Friday, with 40-60 hours per week and some Saturdays as needed. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00/hr.
