Job Summary : The Safety Specialist will assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of critical safety processes, programs, and procedures to achieve goals, objectives, and continuous improvements related to safety and health. The Safety Specialist will perform hazard analysis, provide safety related support and training for the work force along with driving safety initiatives and assignments as directed by the Safety Manager to a successful completion.

Job Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Maintain, and promote safety as a core value and drive a positive safety culture.
  • Identify and prioritize Safety initiatives in support of business needs.
  • Advise the Safety Manager on facility risks, incidents, and unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Monitor and help improve Safety systems, programs, policies, and procedures to reduce or eliminate risk with the goal of zero injuries.
  • Identifying potential hazards in the workplace and developing strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Investigating accidents, incidents, or near misses, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments.
  • Help maintain an employee safety committee, safety suggestion program, and safety promotional activities.
  • Maintain site safety records, such as Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Job Safety Analyses (JSA), etc.
  • Administer the DOT program for all Company truck drivers. Which includes running yearly Motor Vehicle Reports, maintaining all compliance documentation, and ensuring all medical certificates are up to date to ensure FMCSA compliance.
  • Some travel may be required for training and cross-facility inspections and audits.
  • Monitoring forklift training and ensure certifications are up to date.
  • Perform other job-related duties as directed by the Safety Manager.

Skills :

  • Strong background and knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards.
  • An understanding of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to Safety and Workers' Comp
  • Safety & Health experience in manufacturing operations and warehousing.
  • Federal DOT knowledge a plus.
  • Experience in identifying ergonomic hazards and identifying corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of workers' compensation, a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively at various levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PPT, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to concentrate with various interruptions and be able to prioritize assignments effectively.
  • Strong background in risk assessment & hazard analysis.
  • Work Environment :

  • Works primarily in a climate-controlled environment with the presence of moving machinery and material handling equipment.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Ability to be punctual and attend work onsite on a regular and consistent basi
  • The person in this position must move about office and manufacturing areas as needed.
  • Must be able to remain in a standing position or a stationary position for extended periods of the
  • Occasionally will be expected to lift items not to exceed 50
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in a safety related field is preferred or relevant Health and Safety experience.
  • OSHA 30 Hour Course.
  • 3 + years of related Safety Experience in manufacturing and warehousing is a plus.
