Director of Software Engineering
As the Director of software engineering in the IoT and Connected Devices team, you will provide technical leadership to the people responsible for building and operating Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services supporting connected devices across many industries. By fostering a high-performance culture, you will mentor and develop team members, creating an environment that encourages continuous learning and professional growth. You are an OCI service owner and will work with product management, architects and DevOps to ensure customer success.
Responsibilities
As Director of Engineering, you will own and drive the service's operations, overseeing customer experience, system stability, reliability, and performance. Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and adoption of best practices for availability and scalability. You will provide Feature & Architectural Leadership, set Strategic Direction & lead Community Engagement, define Metrics & KPIs and be responsible for Talent Development and growth.
Service Ownership & Operations
Own and drive the service's operations, overseeing customer experience, system stability, reliability, and performance. Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and adoption of best practices for availability and scalability.
Feature & Architectural Leadership
Guide and coordinate new feature development across multiple sprint teams. Drive architectural improvements, technical roadmaps, and platform enhancements in collaboration with engineering and product teams.
Metrics & KPIs
Define and track KPIs and qualitative goals that measure the team's impact and align with the Connected Devices business objectives. Employ data-driven approaches to set priorities, monitor progress, and track tactical deliverables.
Talent Development & Leadership
Inspire, mentor, and retain top engineering talent by setting clear goals, providing actionable feedback, and supporting career growth. Guide frontline managers in establishing objectives, tracking performance, and professional development aligned to business needs.
Project Management
Ensure strong execution discipline. Own and communicate project timelines and priorities, remove roadblocks, and ensure continuous progress on initiatives.
Qualifications
A BS or MS degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience. A minimum of 10 years of experience in people management, with a proven track record in managing large-scale critical service. Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, resource management, and performance optimization within a technology-driven environment. Exceptional decision-making abilities, with experience influencing senior leadership and cross-functional teams. Strong background in recruiting, developing, and leading senior individual contributors (ICs) and building high-performing teams. Ability to make decisions that significantly impact the organization's infrastructure, with potential implications for revenue and long-term operational success. Experience in Networking and Cloud Infrastructure Operations Experience in managing a large-scale critical service in a Cloud computing
