OTR Dispatcher
An OTR (Over-the-Road) Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and managing the daily logistics of long-haul truck drivers to ensure efficient and timely delivery of goods. This role involves communicating with drivers, managing schedules, and troubleshooting any issues that may arise on the road. The ideal candidate is highly organized, has strong problem-solving skills, and possesses excellent communication abilities to work effectively with drivers and customers.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Plan, schedule, and dispatch drivers for on-time delivery of goods across long distances.
- Monitor driver schedules and adjust dispatch plans as needed to meet changing conditions or deadlines.
- Communicate with drivers to provide instructions, address concerns, and relay any updates regarding routes, weather conditions, or delivery expectations.
- Track and monitor truck locations to ensure drivers are following planned routes and timelines.
- Use dispatch software and GPS tracking systems to manage dispatch operations and ensure real-time updates.
- Resolve issues and handle emergencies, such as delays, accidents, or route changes, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate with maintenance to ensure trucks are in optimal working condition and meet regulatory standards.
- Maintain records and logs of driver activity, delivery times, fuel usage, and other metrics.
- Collaborate with customer service and warehouse teams to ensure accurate and timely deliveries.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policies, promoting safe driving practices.
Qualifications :
High School Diploma or GED (Associates or Bachelors degree in Logistics or a related field preferred).Prior experience in dispatching, logistics, or a similar role within the transportation industry.Familiarity with dispatch software, GPS systems, and other tracking technology.Strong organizational and multitasking skills with a high attention to detail.Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with drivers, customers, and internal teams.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.Knowledge of DOT regulations and industry standards.Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as needed.This position is ideal for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a passion for logistics and transportation management.
