FIBER OPTIC TECHNICIAN / NETWORK TECHNICIAN

Fiber Optic Technician works with optical cables and fibers used in communications data transmission. Fuse fibers together, install fiber cables, splice fibers, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs in buildings and beneath the ground and underground junction boxes and conduit that supports the system outside plant fiber optic infrastructure by utilizing specialized equipment, devices, and processes.
Use of optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs) and optical power meters to measure signal strength, detect faults or signal losses, and identify potential issues affecting network performance. In the event of system failures or disruptions, they are responsible for troubleshooting problems, identifying root causes, and implementing solutions to restore service and minimize downtime.

Responsibilities:
Install and maintain fibre optic telecommunications, such as broadband, mobile and landline phone networks, and digital systems.
Set up fibre optic telecommunication and data networks
Lay underground and underfloor fibre optic cabling
Test systems and find and fix any faults
Design, build and test fibre optic equipment
Liaise with customers in person, on the phone or online
Maintain detailed records of each job
Working outdoors in all weathers.

Qualifications:
Must have at least 3 years experience in Fiber Optic installation field
MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE
MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A DRUG SCREEN AND DMV CHECK
MUST BE ABLE TO WORK OUTSIDE FOR ENTIRE SHIFT
Knowledge of telecommunications
Understanding of technical operating systems
Ability to use your initiative
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent customer service skills
Good mathematical abilities
Logical thinking skills.
