Surgery Attendant

The Surgery Attendant contributes to implementing the perioperative nursing plan of care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and / or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Duties / Responsibilities :

• Performs safe patient transfer / transport procedures.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the perioperative area.
• Adheres to principles of aseptic technique.
• Performs nursing tasks assigned by the nurse to promote perioperative nursing care.
• Contributes to the efficiency of the department.
• Maintains and communicates accurate patient appointments according to established procedures, with changes made as appropriate.
• Admits / Registers patients according to established procedure.
• Uses the organization’s resources and equipment to enhance communication between ancillary departments, surgical services, and the community.
• Unpacks and distributes surgical supplies delivered from the stock room.
• Keeps surgical materials organized and stocked according to par levels.
• Communicates daily with leadership concerning supply needs or other related issues.

Education :

High school graduate or equivalent required.

Experience :

One year of surgery or materials management preferred. Previous nursing assistant or environmental assistant experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Licensure / Certification :

Basic Life Support (BLS) within three months of hire required.
