Diet Technician to support our Eating Disorder Residential Treatment Center (RTC) in San Jose CA, as well as supporting our outpatient clients. Please be advised that weekend availability is required for this position.
The Diet Technician supports clients through their daily activities and the dietary component of the program. Some of the typical duties on shift include menu planning with clients, managing kitchen stock and safety, correcting meal plans, grocery shopping, tracking dietary budgets, preparing meals for clients, consuming meals alongside our clients to offer support in the moment, and communicating observations with our treatment team.
Responsibilities
- Purchasing all grocery items for facility, considering variety, special diets, and food safety
- Maintaining a well-stocked kitchen, and upholding proper sanitation requirements
- Analyzing food service providers to ensure quality products at cost effective prices
- Monitoring client consumption of appropriate meals and providing supplementation for incomplete meals
- Cooking and baking with clients as therapeutically recommended by Dietitian
- Participating in restaurant experiences
- Enforcing dietary program and supporting goals set by Dietitian
- Assisting in education for other staff onsite to ensure food safety and proper portioning of meals. This role will be the leader of the kitchen reporting to the Nutrition Director
- All other responsibilities as assigned by Nutrition Director
Qualifications
Bachelors in Nutrition or related fieldMust be available for weekend shifts. RequiredKnowledge of nutrition and dietary interventions in the mental health fieldExperience in dietary educationAbility to communicate with persons from all educational and cultural backgroundsHave strong written and verbal communication skillsMust demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, a professional manner, enthusiasm, and a non-judgmental attitudeBe self-motivated and creativeAbility to demonstrate understanding of the medical consequences of eating disorders, the hazards of re-feeding and how to avoid complicationsAbility to implement an individualized menu plan for each of the different types of eating disordersAbility to communicate effectively to all staff in implementing the dietary programsMust have the ability to provide documentation or obtain a state-required food handlers permit, or Serve Safe Certification, upon hire
