About The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Risk Decision Science team. In this role, you’ll apply a data‑driven approach to identify, understand, and scope emerging fraud trends across the fraud detection and collaborate closely with cross‑functional partners, including engineers, product managers, operations, and other data scientists. This role will be responsible for key performance metrics such as fraud losses, false positive rates, and operational efficiency. Success will require strong business and technical acumen, along with excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
What You Will Do
- Deliver impactful strategies to mitigate or stop fraudulent activities and achieve key results (OKRs).
- Apply data analysis, experimentation, ML / LLM model techniques to support risk strategies while preserving user experience.
- Participate in project definition, idea generation, and collaborate with partners across product, engineering, community ops, and regional teams focused on risk / fraud mitigation.
- Evolve risk metrics, shape data models and instrumentation to generate insights and develop new data products and models.
- Communicate findings to leadership, strengthening business decisions.
- Stay highly engaged in a fast‑paced environment.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years in a data‑focused role such as product analytics, business analytics, business operations, or data science.Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or other quantitative fields.Experience framing ambiguous business problems into structured analytical work.Proficient in data science and visualization tools : SQL, Python, R, Tableau.Proficient at defining and communicating performance metrics.Proven track record applying analytical / statistical methods to solve real‑world problems using big data.Creative problem solving, critical thinking, and a get‑things‑done attitude.Hands‑on, data‑driven, and attentive to detail.Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or other quantitative fields.3+ years in Risk / Fraud / Payments.Expertise in statistics and experimental design.Demonstrated leadership : producing high‑quality work and crafting meaningful relationships.Team player capable of collaborating with senior leaders.Outstanding communication and people skills – ability to explain implications to an executive audience.Passion for Uber.Compensation & Benefits
For San Francisco, CA‑based roles : base salary US$169,000‑188,000 per year. Eligible for Uber’s bonus program, equity award, and other compensation types. Additional benefits available – see the Uber benefits page for details.
