The Assistant Professor, Medical Sciences will participate in the planning, implementation, and delivery of appropriate histology, cytology, anatomy, and pathology content in the SOM's pre-clerkship curriculum. In particular, the identified educator will be expected to manage interactive histology laboratory sessions across the highly integrated active-learning curriculum. The Assistant Professor, Medical Sciences will also engage with and provide guidance / mentorship for students, serve in various committee roles, and actively pursue independent scholarship and / or research, as appropriate.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Assistant Professor, Medical Sciences at Hackensack Meridian Health includes :
- Participate in the School of Medicine¿s medical education program, which features an integrated 3+1 curriculum that allows students to develop an individualized 4th year program following a 3-year core curriculum. The curriculum emphasizes lifelong learning by students and the use of active learning pedagogy by faculty.
- Oversee histology curriculum a fundamental thread that emphasizes structure-function relationships through integrated cell biology and physiology perspectives.
- Play a role in design of additional integrated pathology and laboratory medicine experiences for our students.
- Provide service to the School of Medicine and professional committees / communities.
- Be actively involved in curriculum evaluation and improvement. Advise students.
- Assist in various LCME, MSCHE, OSHE, NJ-BME, and DOE accreditation / reaccreditation activities.
- Engage in research and scholarship to advance medical education and scientific knowledge.
- Perform other faculty duties and assume academic roles commensurate with rank and experience.
- Other duties and / or projects as assigned.
- Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :
Terminal degree (Ph.D., M.D., D.O.) with specialization in a basic / clinical science field.Expertise in one or more of the following Histology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Pathology, Immunology / Microbiology, Anatomy / Neuroanatomy.Evidence of excellence in teaching in an undergraduate medical education and / or other health science settings.Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred :
Skilled digital anatomic pathologist.Exerience in (clinical) laboratory setting. Experience in teaching medical students topics including anatomy and / or pathology.Understanding of team-based, problem-based, and case-based learning with students in both large and small class settings.Demonstrated scholarship (e.g., publications, patents, extramural grant-funding, reaearch, etc.) in a relevant professional field.Demonstrated ability to effectively employ active learning pedagogies.Demonstrated experience and ability in developing integrated medical science course materials for undergraduate medical students in both preclinical and clinical phases.Skills necessary to contribute to the continued development of a department of medical sciences at an emergent allopathic medical school.Experience in LCME accreditation activities and development of new medical schools.If you feel that the above description speaks directly to your strengths and capabilities, then please apply today!
