Department Service Manager In Alternative Investments Operation

We're seeking someone to join our team as Department Service Manager in Alternative Investments Operation. The Department Service Manager of Alternative Investments Operations plays a strategic leadership role within Wealth Management Operations, overseeing the operational execution, risk management, and service delivery for a diverse portfolio of alternative investment products. This includes hedge funds, private equity, real estate, exchange funds, and managed futures. Serving as a key liaison between Financial Advisors (FAs), clients, and internal stakeholders, ensuring seamless support and operational excellence.

In the Operations division, we partner with business units across the Firm to support financial transactions, devise and implement effective controls and develop client relationships, driving strategic automation solutions by embracing a transformation mindset and challenging the status quo.

This is a VP Department Manager position at the P5 level within Client Service & Relationship Management, which is responsible for managing internal and external client relationships. We do this by engaging in client service activities, optimizing the client experience, and managing vendor / external business partner relationships.

What you'll do in the role :

  • Develop staff, lead projects and control deployment of resources, owning management tools / methods such as work queues, checklists, depth charts and calendars
  • Set direction and expectations for your team(s), defining training plans and transfer of expert knowledge to contribute to team output and development
  • Contribute to business plan for area, establish risk / contingency plans, raise and address issues with urgency when required
  • Build and manage relationships with business unit partners, other Morgan Stanley infrastructure departments, and external contact points in Client or Market organizations
  • Responsible for multiple processes across Service Operations
  • Oversee complex process management
  • Deliver PowerPoint presentations to senior management on a regular basis

At least 10+ years of relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role - Proven ability to effectively manage and lead team members, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Bachelor's degree required - Series 99 required within 1 year of hire - Capacity to maintain professionalism through adverse situations. Ability to thrive in a fast paced and changing environment - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Excellent reading comprehension skills - Excellent attention to detail and follow-up - Proficient in the Microsoft suite of products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) - Strong relationship building skills serving as a role model for client service - Ability to think commercially, understand the impact of initiatives, risks on the operational budget - Experience in managing teams, enhancing control, continuous improvement and reducing operational risk - Culture carrier and role model, representing and leading the Firm's core values to influence and motivate those around you in an inclusive manner. - Influence stakeholders as needed to move forward key initiatives
